On October 22, 2009, Liberty County’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers joined the Afterschool Alliance and afterschool programs across the country in rallying for afterschool programs. On October 22, more than 7,500 communities and 1 million Americans celebrated Lights On Afterschool. The purpose of the celebration was to demonstrate how afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning.

This year’s classroom teachers provided enrichment time to focus of the importance of afterschool programs in our community. Every child that participated designed their own light bulb. The bulbs were then assembled on posters and taken to area community partners.

Project Coordinator, Seth Geiger, M. Ed. was nominated to the Florida Afterschool Alliance (FASA) Awards of Excellence at the FASA/21st Century CLC State Conference on October 1, 2010. Seth was one of five nominees in the category of Multi-Site Coordinator to receive the nomination from the State of Florida. The conference was held at the Walt Disney World Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida from September 28-October 1, 2010.
